The Bargu dialect is a branch of Bargu Buriat in Mongolian, which is classified into two types, Old Bargu and New Bargu. The previous study of Bargu is mainly made on Old Bargu from the angles of phonetics, morphology, and lexicology. And the research on the verbs in Bargu is performed only in respect of forms, but there is none from the angle of meanings in a sentence. In addition, the verbs in Old Bargu and New Bargu are different in the forms and meanings.This paper expounds the forms and meanings of a converb and gerund in Bargu, comparing Old Bargu and New Bargu, based on data collected through the field research in the East and West Banner of New Bargu in Hulunbuir during July and August in 2010 as well as previous research materials on Bargu. This paper is made up of four parts, namely, introduction, chapter one, chapter two and conclusion. The introduction introduces the purpose, significance, methods, materials of the research as well as historical origin of Bargu people and the previous study. Chapter one presents the forms and meanings of a converb after dividing it into several types. Chapter two performs a detailed analysis on a gerund in Bargu, which can be classified into several kinds according to the forms and meanings. Lastly, new findings are summarized in the conclusion.
