Fansub groups, founded by anime fans or film buff, is in terms of the grassroots organization in Internet, which dedicates to the work of translation between foreign and native languages. The past years has witnessed the birth, grow-up, development and expansion of the Chinese fansub groups. With a huge source of film and TV-Serials from abroad and multi-styles in translation from foreign language to Chinese, such as English and Japanese, the fansub groups have won the hearts of cyber citizens, especially the youth group. It must be underlain that fansub groups represents a global cultural phenomenon which originated in America. The choosing and consuming of cultural objects of the Chinese people in their daily life has been changed and influenced unobtrusively and imperceptibly to diversified and multi-classified standards with the impulse of shared consciousness of fansubs groups in offering plenty of translated works without charging, while at the same time, the obscure discretion between piracy, infringement and fansub sharing has resulted in endless dispute and controversy, questioning and criticizing the cyber-ethics of fansub groups.The thesis focus on the Chinese fansub groups which consists of 4 chapters. The first chapter is set to enunciate the Origin, Core Issues and theoretical approach of the essay. The birth and development of fansub groups will be stated in the second chapter in a historical and descriptive way, comparing with the traditional and conventional translation of films and TV Serials between foreign and native languages. The third chapter is the most important part of the whole thesis. It selects Hollywood productions and American TV-Serials as main object of study and divide the issue into there parts respectively:Fansub groups as representation of civic consciousness in post-modern epoch; the cohesive pleasure of audience in Internet provoked by the translated version/text; Fansub groups as fans group in Internet between the discourse of consumption and resistance. And in the last chapter, the influence of fansub on domestic film and television industry will be considered and discussed and the new trends of development of fansub groups will be highlighted as well.
