Sun Li In His Later Years Of Literary Creation And Cultural Criticism

As the second generation writer of the new literature, Sun Li's literature career ranges from the liberated areas literature, seventeen-year literature to new epoch literature. He is the participant and witness of the constant changing of the 20th century literature, who at first serves as a literature dogface in the liberated areas, then becomes the establisher of the"lotus lake school", and finally grows up into a great scholar in his late years.Sun Li's life is full of ups and downs. He has effaced himself from literature since 1956 to 1976 and has a sensationally triumphant return until the political disorder is winded up as well as people can speak their own opinions out. In the year 1995, Sun Li bided farewell to the literary circles that he had ploughing and weeding for a great portion of his life and isolated himself from the outside world without going out of the door, visiting any guest, reading books and talking a single word about literature because of his aging and poor health.This master thesis will focus on the creative writing and the literary criticism in Sun Li's later years, that is, from 1976 to 1995. Sun Li writes a great variety of literature works in his declining years such as Yun-Zhai Novel and lots of prose. The prose written by Sun Li in his old age was abundant and various. The author of this paper concentrates on analyzing his prose in a narrow sense, which can mainly be categorized into elegy prose and book reports. Sun Li carries on his creative writing with a sensitive as well as a fiery heart and gains outstanding achievements on literary criticism. The attitude of his criticism is sincere .His excoriation is pointing at literature's quality as commodity, obsolete and appealing, which is full of theoretical eyesight, providing a correct direction to literary creation. His literary criticism possesses a kind of sharp excoriation aiming at the negative effect of the commercialized literature since the new era. Therefore, his late year's literary criticism and creative writing turn out to be the important existence in modern literature.When compared with the researches on Sun Li's early period works, the researches on his old age's writings and culture criticism among the academic circles are not comprehensive and systematic enough. Some researches are just focused on the style of his prose in his later years without giving an all-directional discussion on his old age's creative works. The author of this paper strives fearlessly to dissertate Sun Li's sincere character on culture criticism after teasing his senectitude literary creation, in order to analyze his literary achievements more comprehensively and systematically.
