Subacute thyroiditis is also called acute non-suppurative thyroiditis, granulomatous thyroiditis,pseudo-tuberculous thyroiditis, etc. In recent years, the incidence of it shows an upward trend. This disease has the predilection in the 40-50 year-old female and shows seasonal trends in incidence that occurs in summer and fall with the intestinal virus peak in line.Subacute thyroiditis is a form of self-limiting disease, the general course of the disease in 6-12 months, but can be increased repeatedly for several months or years. The cause of this disease has not yet be sure, many commentators suggest that it is secondary to viral infections, while genetic factors are also considered relevantly. There is no exact drugs for the subacute thyroiditis clinical pain.Western medicine use more non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or glucocorticoid treatment which has a rapid onset but easily cause a reduction or withdrawal condition repeatedly. For this,it not only extended the duration, increase the hormone dosage, but also increse the hormone side effects.Although there is no correspondence name of this disease in chinese medicine, subacute thyroiditis is often be categorized into"goiter disease"in TCM.Most of doctors treat the disease with its stages and types according to syndrome differentiation in modern times. Some of them compose the prescription by themselves. My tutor treated the disease with only-herbs.It can relieve pain, fever and other syndromes in patients effectively and immediately. It can also reduce the duration and recurrent, improve the effects. At same times it can avoid the side-effects,which caused by long-time application of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and hormones.
