Purpose:To assess the benefits and harms of traditional Chinese medicine in the treatment of treating arteriosclerosis obliterans.Method:We electronically searched:EMBASS(1978-2009.10),OVID-MEDLIN (1950-2009.10),Current Controlled Trials,The National Research Register The Cochrane Library Issue 3,2009, CBM(1983-2009.9),CNKI(1995-2009.9),WangFang(1994-2009),VIP(1989-2009).We also hand searched some related journals. The search was conducted in Nov.10,2009.The quality of included randomized controlled trials was evaluated and meta-analysis was conducted by RevMan 5.0.2 .Results:1 Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria,12 studies were included from the initial review of 929 studies, including 973 cases of patients, the study sample size from 36 to 260 cases. Eight, trials are RCT and Four triais are QCT. None of the trials mentioned the concealer of distribution and just one document adopt single blind. None of them mentioned the number of patients who cannot be related during the trial and adopt intention-to-treat.All the induded trials were of inferior methodology quallty.2 Meta analysis shows that: herbs is simile with efficacy of Prostaglandin E1 in cure rate for treating ASO,RR=1.34(95%CI:0.89,2.03),P=0.16;herbs are better than Prostaglandin E1 in effective rate for treating ASO,RR=1.13(95%CI:1.04,1.23),P=0.004. Because the study used a different medicine and contrast,it can only be a single description and re-calculation of the efficacy effect of the amount of the research. Most of included studies suggested that the effects of traditional Chinese medicine on cure rate, total efficiency and heighten ABI level, improve blood fat were similar to the efficacy of aspirin, acipimox, prostaglandin E1 and other Western considerable. Only a few studies showed better effects; One study mentioned adverse reactions and showed TCM had fewer adverse effects than western medicine.Conclusion:1 Some TCM may be more effective than the controls in relieving the patients'recovery rate, efficiency, impact of blood fat and ABI level.2 Some TCM of the trials included may cause lower digestive tract symptoms when compared to the controls, and Chinese herbs formulas not cause sexual disfunction.3 The evidence is not forced enough, because of low quality of the included studies.More randomized con-trolled trials of high quality are needed for stronger evidence.
