| Gastric cancer is defined as the primary malignant tumor of the gastric epithelium mucosa. In traditional Chinese medicine, gastric cancer refers to several diseases such as "fu liang, "wei wan tong","wei fan","fan wei", "ji ju",etc. The deficiency of the spleen and stomach, irregular diet habit, and internal injury caused by excess of seven emotions are the most common causes for gastric cancer which is always asthenia in origin and sthenia in superficiality. The locus of gastric cancer is at spleen and stomach, but sometimes with liver and kidney involved. The mechanism and the syndrome property shows not only a sthenia reflection like food accumulation,qi stagnation,heat accumulation,phlegm accumulation,blood stasis, but also an asthenia reflection like the waning of the healthy Qi. The main symptoms of gastric cancer include stomach pain, bulk at the upper abdomen, appetite declining, vomit, dark stool, progressive weight-losing etc. In recent years, lots of clinical experiences on treating gastric cancer by TCM have been proved effective especially on releasing the side effect of chemical and radio therapy, easing the post-operative complication, restraining metastasis and relapse of cancer, which show a prospective future of TCM treating gastric cancer.This essay consists of two parts:literature review and clinical research.Literature review:this part summarized the points of views on the name, cause and mechanism of gastric cancer by studying both ancient and modern TCM literatures. The focus of this part is about the researches in the past ten years on the TCM types of gastric cancer.Clinical research:this part is a Retrospective Studies on the gastric cancer patients admitted in DongZhiMen hospital from Feb.2005 to Feb.2010. This study analyzed the syndrome type distribution character of the cases complying with the standard, and the distribution difference compared to the ones reported in the past ten years, and also the indication to clinic treatment. The result showed that most of the gastric patients admitted in TCM hospital are males,and at an advanced age and disease stage, and in complex condition. The common clinical syndrome types are deficiency-cold of spleen and stomach type,stomach heat damaging yin type,insufficiency of qi-blood type,stomach-liver disharmony type,accumulation of phlegm-dampness type and accumulation of stasis toxin type by order which are in a concordance with the six types confirmed by the gastric cancer association of the Beijing City affiliated to the first gastric cancer meeting in 1978. But the orders of the six types do not match the reports in the past ten years. It is indicated that in DongZhiMen hospital the TCM treat method on gastric cancer patient ought to be adjusted. |
