Reactive Arthritis (ReA) is an aseptic inflammatory arthropathy which is after a microbial infection of other parts of the organism. Reactive Arthritis mainly affect cautious arthrosis of lower limbs, and usually comports as non-symmetrical, less arthritis. The arthrosis of upper limbs can also be affected. Reactive Arthritis is classified to "heat bloekage" and "damp-heat bloekage" in "bloekage syndrome" by Traditional Chinese Medicine. The curative effect of Traditional Chinese Medicine is obvious, safe and steady. Professor Mo Chengrong has been engaged in clinic for more than 30 years. She has accumulated plenty of clinical experience in treating Reactive Arthritis. Through years of clinical practice, Professor Mo has summarized the following points about treating reactive arthritis:Professor Mo thinks that deficiency in the root and excess in the branch is the property of the disease, which is caused by deficiency of the healthy qi, scattering striae, and the incapable prevention of the pathogenic factor. Subsequently, the pathogenic factor of rheumatism will aggress the body, blood and qi.This may lead to stagnant movement of qi and blood, and block muscle, channel and joints. The disease takes defieiency of healthy qi as an intrinsic factor and pathogenic evil of wind, cold, damp, heat and blood stasis as extrinsic factors. The basic principle in TCM treatment to reactive is strengthening healthy qi to eliminate pathogenic factors . And also the emphasis on the application of replenishing qi and nourishing yin, clearing away heat and removing toxin, activating blood to resolve stagnation is very important. There are six syndromes in clinic. The treatments based on syndrome differentiation should be combined with clinic phrase: arthralgia due to dampness-heat—clearing away heat and draining dampness, activating blood to resolve stagnation and dredging collaterals ; severe accumulation of noxious-dampness—clearing away heat and removing toxin, dispersing dampness and dredging collaterals; obstructive syndrome due to wind-cold-dampness -expelling wind and eliminating dampness, warming meridinans to disperse cold and dredging collaterals; deficiency of qi and cold stagnate—warming yang to supplement qi, dredging collaterals to relieve pain; consumption of qi and blood—invigorating qi and blood, dredging meridians and activating collaterals-, insufficiency of blood and wind-blockage—replenishing qi and blood, dispelling evil and dredging collaterals. Focusing on the intrinsic and extrinsic factors of reactive arthritis could achieve a better therapeutic effect.
