Objective: To observe blood glucose,blood fats,kidney merit,albuminuria,blood plasma AngII level,kidney and renal tissue TGF-βreceptor and FN mRNA expression of model rats treated by valsartan and Shenqi Fuzheng liquid to explore the protection against kidney diseases caused by diabetes. Methods: 55 Wistar rats, 47 rats were fasted for 12 to 16 hours with free water.To inject 2% STZ (STZ) by 50mg/kg, and chose rats which glucose blood test≥16.7mmol / L after 72h injection for diabetic rats. Another 8 rats were normal control group, injected by a considerable volume of citric acid buffer. Diabetic rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: model group(6), valsartan group(6) , Shenqi Fuzheng fluid group(8) and combination group(8) (valsartan and Shenqi Fuzheng liquid treatment group). valsartan group were given oral valsartan 10 mg / kg / d , Shenqi Fuzheng liquid group 200mg/kg/d and the joint group of valsartan 10 mg / kg / d / + Shenqi Fuzheng liquid 200 mg / kg / d,The control group and model group were given equivalent 0.9% NS.Kill all rats after 8 weeks and observe the blood glucose, blood lipids, renal function, proteinuria, renal pathological changes, plasma Ang II levels, renal tissue TGF-βreceptor expression and FN mRNA.Results: Compared with normal group, in model group and other treated groups blood glucose, blood lipids, renal function, urinary protein, plasma AngII were significantly increased (P <0.05 or P <0.01); the average area of glomerular capillary and the average thickness of the basement membrane were significantly increased (P <0.05); renal tissue TGF-βreceptor and FN mRNA expreesion significant increase (P <0.05). Shenqi Fuzheng liquid can reduce high blood sugar (P <0.01), increase HDL levels, and decrease CHO, TG level (P <0.05 or P <0.01);The effect of valsartan on high blood glucose and dyslipidemia were not good(P> 0.05); The effection of Shenqi Fuzheng liquid in reducing renal hypertrophy, inhibiting renal TβRI, TβRII and FN mRNA expression was more obviously than valsartan (P <0.01,P <0.05); Reduceing Ang II by valsartan was more obviously by Shenqi Fuzheng liquid (P <0.05);Combination therapy could further reduce the urinary protein, renal hypertrophy index, the average glomerular area and the GBM thickening (P <0.05). Conclusion: 1. Shenqi Fuzheng liquid could reduce blood sugar, blood lipids, improve renal function and reduce proteinuria, Ang II level, inhibit expression of renal TβRI, TβRII and FN mRNA. 2. Valsartan had no obviously effection on high blood sugar and high blood cholesterol, but also could improve the general condition,renal function and reduce proteinuria,Ang II level. 3. Shenqi Fuzheng liquid and Valsartan had a synergistic effect: Shenqi Fuzheng liquid were beter than valsartan in reducing renal hypertrophy,inhibiting renal TβRI,TβRII and FN mRNA expression; valsartan reduced the level of Ang II more obviously than Shenqi Fuzheng liquid; combination therapy could further reduce the urinary protein, renal hypertrophy index, the average glomerular area and the thickening of GBM.
