The article is divided into three parts: The first part is a review, in which traditional Chinese and Western medicine's conceptions and treatments of chronic pulmonary infection in the aged is involved. The conception, epidemiology and characteristics of morbility of pulmonary infection in the aged are addressed in Western medicine subsection; and the diagnosis, treatment and problems in antibiosis therapy are stressed; the etiological factor, pathogenesis and therapeutics of which are addressed in traditional Chinese subsection. The second part is clinical research, in which therapeutic effect, respiratory function, BMI(body mass index), the quality of life questionnaire pre- and post-therapy in 21 cases in out- and in-patient of our department were evaluated; which suggests that Chinese medicine has positive effects in pulmonary infection in the aged, i.e. improving symptoms, enhancing respiratory function and elevating quality of life, and analyzing the advantages of the treatment with strengthening Metal by way of reinforcing Earth in cure of chronic pulmonary infection in the aged patients, and indicate that some questions in this clinical observation. The third part is the author's approach of the bacterial load and liminal value of the chronic pulmonary infection with TCM, in order to explore the advantages of TCM further more and put it into the clinical practice!... |
