| Objective To investigate the changes of the serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9 ) level in patients with acute cerebral infarction (ACI) and study the relationship between MMP-9 level and stroke subtypes according to TOAST criteria. Methods 68 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 60 healthy individuals were enrolled in this trial. All the patients were classified into five subtypes according to TOAST criteria, and serum MMP-9 level was measured by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).And then the relationship between MMP-9 level and their TOAST subtypes were analysed. Results OF all the patients, 16.67%, 38.89%, 25%, 8.33%, 5.56% were classified as cardioembolism (CE), large-artery atherosclerosis (LAA), small-artery occlusion lacunar (SAA) ,stroke of other demonstrated etiology (SOE) , stroke of underdemonstrated etiology (SUE) .Serum MMP-9 level of patients were significant higher than those of controls (p<0.05); The level of the serum MMP-9 was much higher in patients with LAA SAA and CE than that in controls. The level of the serum MMP-9 was the highest in themConclusions The MMP-9 level is elevated in acute cerebral infarction. The serum MMP-9 level varied with different subtypes of ACI,specially elevating in subtypes LAA, which surported that the subtypes varied according to different pathogenies. |
