Objective: To investigate major causes of death and characteristics of their distribution and the influencing factors of death in patients of orthopedics wards of WangJing Hospital from 2000.1.1-2007.12.31.Methods: Clinical data from 43 died in patients with orthopedics from 2000.1.1-2007.12.31.Results: The male-female ratio was 1:1.5,the average age was 69.1.The mean period of hospitalization was 27 days. The highest number of death occurs in patients with respiratory disease ,the next was electrolyte mess ;followed by heart diseases,genitourinary diseases,cerebral disease and digestive system diseases. Among the immediate causes of death,25 cases died from respiratory failure(58.14%),being the first one ,5 cases died from muli -organ(11.63%);4 cases died from acut cerebral diseases (9.30%);3 cases died from heart shock(6.98%)and others died from septic shock,hemorrhagic shock,ovary cancer.Conclusion:The highest number of death occurs in patients with high age. In these cases, hip fractures made the highest rate in the fractures. The death cases of orthopedics were often with several medicine merger diseases, respiratory disease was most. Acute pulmonary embolism was the major causes of death. Absorb heat and fever of unknown origin made the biggest part of the patients with fever after operations in of orthopedics wards. The medium doctor combines should be the effective means.
