OBJECTIVE:To analyse the factors that contribute to the risk of in hospital mortality in neurologic patients.METHODS:We collected the data of death cases from Neurology Department, Qilu Hospital between March1st2010and February28th2013.A statistical description of the distribution of gender and age, clinical features, results of laboratory experiments and causes of death was made.RESULTS:1.A total of101death cases including92cases of stroke and9cases of others were analysed.2. Among the92cases of stroke, males were younger than females in average; males had a higher percentage in the group of≤65-year-old (57.98%) and65~74-year-old (66.67%), while in the group of75~84-year-old (53.05%)and≥85-year-old(85.71%) females were in the majority.3. There were63cases of ischemic stroke (IS),28cases of hemorrhagic stroke (ITS) and1case remained undiagnosed,37males (58.73%)in IS cases and11males(39.29%) in HS cases.4. In the91diagnosed stroke cases, the incidence of hypertension was73.63%, previous stroke history37.36%, coronary arterial disease36.26%, diabetes mellitus26.37%.5. Disorder of consciousness was shown in49cases of stroke including28cases of IS and21cases of HS; Limb weakness was shown in47cases including39cases of IS and8cases of HS.6. According to the imaging data, the most common lesion of infarct was located in the cerebral hemisphere (16cases,40%); the most common lesion of HS cases was intraventricular hemorrhage (9cases.36%).7. Hypokalemia accounted for24.14%and47.83%respectively in IS and HS; hypernatremia accounted for20.69%and47.83%respectively in IS and HS.8. The major cause of death was respiratory and circulatory collapse (67cases,73.63%), and cerebral hernia was the second one (12cases,13.19%).CONCLUSION:Among all the death cases of neurologic disease, stroke still ranked the first with IS in the majority. Disorder of consciousness usually indicated poor prognosis. The main causes of death were respiratory and circulatory collapse and cerebral hernia.
