| Ankylosing spondylitis has a close relationship with HLA-B27 with unknown etiology. AS can leads to stiffness in patients with spinal deformities, due to involved axial joints. Presently there is no effective treatment for it, so in the paper current Review of traditional Chinese and western medicine on the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis has been done and the experiences from the experienced TCM doctors for the treatment has also been collected , in order to be learned by othersThe first part of this paper is the review. By downloading papers of CNKI (China Series full-text database) from 1980-2007 on the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, summarized the recent researches of Western and Chinese medicine in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis approach. Reviews on western medicine are based on 10 suggestions from the recent international evaluation of ankylosing spondylitis Working Group (ASAS) and the European Union anti-rheumatoid (EUEAR) to understand domestic clinical experience, from ankylosing Spondylitis non-drug therapy, medication (including non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, adrenal cortex hormones, slow-acting drugs, such as tumor necrosis factor inhibitors) and discuss on the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis. Review of Chinese medicine from the Pathogenesis and Differential Treatment, treatment phases, the proprietary Chinese medicine therapy, acupuncture and External treatment will be classified into groups. Secondly, the paper is discussed on experiences of treatment of ankylosing spondylitis experience.
