Natural drug plays an enormously important role on human multiply and prosperity, but also makes great contribution on development of the whole world. Plant essential oil is one kind of important and effective components of TCMs, whose separation and analysis is regarded to be very important. In this paper, essential oils were extracted from nine Lamiaceae plants. Then the combination of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with heuristic evolving latent projections (HELP), was investigated as a method of determining volatile components presented in these drugs. With the help of HELP, the purity of chromatographic peaks can first be identified and the overlapped chromatographic peaks were resolved into pure chromatograms and pure mass spectra. Qualitative analysis was performed by similarity search in NIST107 library. Simultaneously, the method of altemative moving window factor analysis (AMWFA) was applied to detect and determine the common components between these samples, whose relative contents of volatile components were determined by the total volume integration. It can be inferred from the results the chemical components of essential oil from Lamiaceae plants were mixed by aliphatic compounds, aromatic compounds and plenty of terpenes and their derivatives. There're 30 Alcohols, 17 Aldehydes, 14 Ketones, 11 Phenols, 11 Esters, 21 free-oxygen Monoterpenoids and 41 sesquiterpenoids in the common components of nine samples. The chemical components of essential oil from different Lamiaceae plant samples and their characteristic components have distinct diversity. 1R-α-Pinene(0.10%~0.76%), 13-Pinene(0.11%~0.64%) and Benzeneacetaldehyde(0.02%~0.39%) are the common main compounds of the nine plants. It's ordinary to detect chemical components of TCMs by GC/MS method and just qualify by its own chemical station, which won't get accurate results especially for complex peak clusters. Compared to simply using GC-MS, the results of the essential oil obtained by the analysis of GC-MS combined with chemometric resolution method and retention index are more reliable and accurate. What's more, AMWFA is used to resolve embedded peaks resolution effectively.TCMs have several of species and different species have various chemical components. Moreover, there are some relationships between them and similar species often contain same chemical components, which can be used as a clue to find new medical plants.
