Alcoholic toxicity, indulging in wine, malnutrition, and even absence of vitaminB1 and B12 are factors that often cause syndromes of cranial nerve damagepathology, such as Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, pellagra etc. The pathologychanges including alcoholic overdrinking for a long time, effects of toxins fromformaldehyde, ethanol, and acetic aldehyde, bad appetite, and lack of nutritions inbrain, as can further cause aberrant response of poisoned nerves. And this mayeasily bring about fatty liver, high blood lactate, deficiency in PTA activity,degeneration of kidney function, and insufficient ATP induced by lacking of nutritionin brain in human.On the other hand, the etiology, pathology, and pathological mechanism ofcranial nerve damage in traditional Chinese medicine are alcoholic overdrinking,alcohol abuse for a long time, or out-of-control drinking, which is due to the hot andacrid properties of alcohol at the beginning stage followed by harming yang andfeeling cold inside. The pathological changes of cranial nerve damage are SaoyinYangxu (yang deficient), cold hand and feet, eating with difficulties, abundant salivaand sloppy stool, and cold syndromes. The major therapy is to cure with herbmedicines based on Sini Tang.
