Objective: To summarize the clinical effects and methods ofarthroscopic reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament withsemitendinosus tendon. Methods: the retrospective analysis was madeto 215 cases of anterior cruciate ligament rupture reconstructedarthroscopically with semitendionosus tendons From February 2003 toApril 2007. The stabilization were evaluated with Lachman test. Theeffects were evaluated with Lysholm and IKDC score. Results: Among215 cases, 143 cases were follow up. Mean follow-up was 16months, Lachman test of 103 cases were negative afteroperation. Lachman test after operation was much better than thatbefore operation. Lysholm score were remarkable improved frompreoperative 50.0±4.5 scores to postoperative 87.0±5.8 scores(P<0.01).Overall 94.8% of patients had a good or excellentresult. Furthermore, based on IKDC score, there were 103 abnormalknees(grade C) and 112 severely abnormal knee(grade D)preoperatively;but after operation, there were 87 normal knees(gradeA),46 nearly normal knees (grade B) and 10 abnormal knees(gradeC) at follow up (P<0.01).Conclusions: Arthroscopic anterior crucialligament reconstruction using four-strand semitendinosus tendonautograft is a reasonable alterative to ACL reconstruction that hasa high short-term stability rate, high patient satisfactionlevel, good postoperative function and a low postoperativecomplication rate. Early and system postoperative exercises can bedone by patients.
