With the advent of knowledge-based economy, information and globalization, the rapid development of ICT has greatly changed people's lifestyle as well as learning style, thus higher requirement for education is needed. In Learning-the treasure within, a report to UNESCO submitted by the International Commission on Education for the 21st century, J.Delors also pointed ort that education in 21st century should focus on four kinds of learning—learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together and learning to be, which are four stanchion for education in 21st century.Unfortunately, there still exists a serious gap between present education and ideal one. Acquisition of Knowledge in classroom is separated from practice, and the teaching approaches and assessing methods are only confined to oral teaching. As a result, some students just turn out to be poor in creativity and problem-solving ability. So, it is urgent for us to change this situation, to develop new instructional models. Problem-based learning models is regarded as an effective model.This thesis covers problem-based learning both in theory and in practice.
