The composing principle of formulae is the distillation of formulae theory, and it is also one of the focal points of formulae research. It is beneficial for finding such a formula right for the diseases through the deep study of a series of formulae for one kind of diseases and what's more, it would make sense in directing the clinic using of formulae as well as increasing the clinical effect. With the help of computer, the study of the composing principle of formulae will get strong technical support. The composing principle of sterility formulae was explored through summarizing literature and analyzing database statistic results.The research collected 340 sterility fomula. Based on original record of syndrome differentiation and pathological mechanism,sterility devided into following eight syndrome: blood deficiency,both qi stagnation and blood deficiency,phlegm-damp,kidney yin deficiency,kidney yang deficiency,insufficiency of kidney essence deficiency,blood stasis,uterus-cold.Based on original function and main treatment of the sterility fomula,I matched it with the sterility syndrome and then analyzed it.I analyzed medicines'nature,flavour,meridian tropism,arising frequency and category of the each syndrome's fomula.At the same time,I adapted clustering analysis to cope with datum with SAS 6.12 and I counted the frequencies of the medicine's matching use by software.We can know the formula composing principle of sterility due to different syndrome by analyzing 340 formulas.1. treating disease from the root is totle principle.2. pay attention to qi-activating herbs,blood-promoting herbs and kidney-tonifying herbs.3. it has different trait based on syndrome. Treating sterility due to both qi stagnation and blood deficiency and sterility due to kidney yin deficiency stress on using heat-clearing drugs; treating sterility due to phlegm-damp stress on using qi-inviqorating herbs; treating sterility due to blood deficiency and sterility due to blood stasis stress on using qi-inviqorating herbs; treating sterility due to kidney yin deficiency stress on using blood-inviqorating herbs; treating sterility due to kidney deficiency stress on using astiction herbs; treating sterility due to blood stasis stress on elimination and reinforcement in combination.Above all, formula composing principle of sterility reflects the principle of treatment based on syndrome differentiation.when treating sterility,harmonizing qu and blood,yin and yang is important.
