Calculating health expenditure of Chinese medicine will provide reference data for Chinese policy and the development of Chinese medicine. The thesis is to use the distribution flow measurement to calculate health expenditure of Chinese medicine for the period 2002-2005 in China, to improve the measurement and to analyze the results more detailedly. The thesis estimates health expenditure of Chinese medicine from the health care expenditure, public health expenditure and the development expenditure of Chinese medicine.Health expenditure of Chinese medicine of the period 2002~2005 are RMB 81.82 billion, RMB 90.20 billion, RMB 98.817 billion, RMB 108.84 billion. The expenditure of 2005 increases RMB 27.03 billion than that of 2002. The average growth rate of health expenditure of Chinese medicine of the period 2002~2005 is 5.19% at comparable prices; the one of the national health expenditure is 9.49% and 10.11% of GDP. From a regional perspective, 11 eastern province share the proportion of the total cost of 62.71% (2002) 62.05 (2003), 61.17% (2004) 60.95% (2005), the average level is 61.65%; eight central province share the proportion of the total cost by four years of 20.03%, 19.83%. 19.91%,20.34%, the average level of 20.04%; 12 western provinces share the proportion of the total cost of the minimum four years of 17.26%,18.11%, 18.92%, 18.71%, the average level of 16.82%, as shows the distribution of the total cost of inter-regional imbalances. The principal component analysis showed that in the economically developed 11 provinces the most important factors of the health expenditure of Chinese medicine are the total wage, emergency doors trips, GDP, and the medical insurance fund income; in the central and western regions ordinary 12 provinces the most important factors are the actual total bed occupancy and emergency doors trips; in the central and western regions 4 provinces which have more health expenditure the most important factors are the medical insurance fund and the total wage; in 4 provinces which have few of health expenditure Chinese the most important factors are the actual total bed occupancy, emergency doors trips and rural residents per capita health expenditure. The country's 31 provinces could be grouped into three categories by the cluster analysis. The third category can be further subdivided into two more obviously. In the more economically developed areas health expenditure of Chinese medicine is significantly better than that in central and western regions. The formula attached to the paper enables other researchers to improve the method. Calculating health expenditure of Chinese medicine and the use of statistical methods for analysis of the results also need to constantly be improved. The statistical analysis in the thesis is preliminary, only as a reference for future research.
