Objective: It's often seen that nephropathy caused by Aristolochia fangji as well as other aristolochia herbs in the clinic. It is so-called aristolochia acid nephropathy (AAN). The main toxin ingredient is aristolochic acid (AA). The study is under the guidance of traditional Chinese medicine that thinks compatibility of formula could detoxify. And it is also based on the modern pathology which thinks the etiology of AAN of the herbs' toxin accumulate and spleen and kidney deficiency pattern is etiology change of kidney and impediment of fluid metabolism. The experiment is intent to observe the effect on AAN by compatible herbs from disconnected formula Fangjihuangqitang. The experiment reveals that the toxin of Aristolochia fangji could be reduced by combined with certain herbs. And we probe into the mechanism of the detoxify function. We wish the result could guidance clinic to prevent and treat with AAN.Methods: 108 SD rats that are half male and half female was Divided into nine groups by random and averagely. The groups are Aristolochia Fangji with large dosage (A group). Fangji with middle dosage (B group), Fangji with small dosage (C group), Fangji combine with Huangqi group (D group), Fangji combine with Baizhu group (E group), Fangji combine with Gancao group (F group), Fangji combine with Shengjiang and Gancao (G group), all herbs of Fangjihuangqitang (I group), control group (H group). All the rats from different groups were fed with different decoctions of equal volume. A/B/C groups are fed with Fangji decoction of different proportion that is 1:5:10. C/D/E/F/G/H groups are fed by decoction of combined herbs mentioned upon. The proportion of herbs is according to original formula. Control group was fed by distilled water of same volume. All these rats were fed once per day for 60 days. Then observed the pathology change of kidney and index lever.Result: Weight of rats and alkaline phosphatase and histopathologic has significance change of Aristolochia fangji of large dose group compared with control group (P<0.05). Serum creatinine and β -microglobulin and lysozyme has no significance change (P>0.05). All the observe index are no significance in Aristolochia Fangji of middle dose group and small dose group compared with other groups. All the groups of combined herbs were contrasted each other. Serum creatinine of F group has significance meaning compared with D/E/G/H. Lysozyme of F group has significance meaning compared with G/H. And the observation of D/E/F groups shows that Baizhu/ Gancao/ Huangqi has the function to prevent AAN, and the intensity is Baizhu>Huangqi>Gancao.Conclusion: The rats were fed by Aristolochia fangji of large dose group has obvious injury of kidney. Baizhu and huangqi and gancao can prevent Aristolochia acid nephropathy due to they invigorate qi and spleen and induce urine. But the functions of the three herbs were no significance difference. But the trend was increased by degrees.
