National physical fitness status and health level are constitutive elements of social productivity, embodiment of overall national strength, as well as significant marks of social civilization and progress. National physical fitness monitoring is a kind of research activity that conducts regular testing nationwide by the means of sampling, with a view to having a systematic survey of national physical composition, body function and physical fitness. In order to better understand the physical fitness status and health conditions of Chinese people and long-term systematically observe the characteristics and laws of national physical fitness development, the nation will carry out national physical fitness monitoring in a cycle period of five years. In practical monitoring, due to sampling error or negligence error or artificial compilation, etc, the reported statistics may contain some dubious data. Thus after testing, an inspection on the overall quality of obtained data should be conducted. As a significant part of quality control system of national physical fitness monitoring, this study attempts to establish a method of detecting and verifying dubious data, judging dubious data in scientific ways and distinguish the truthfulness or falseness of the data, in hopes that it can provide a methodology of logical check of data for the on-going monitoring work of the year 2005 and work in the future.Based on the original database of Chinese national physical fitness monitoring, eight experiments and repeated discussions of experts, as well as constant test in practice, this study adopts the method of curve fitting, selecting the beset fitting curve in according to the goodness of fit. From the obtained fitting curves, each group of curves are smooth with a goodness of fit exceeding 90%, therefore the overall fitting effect is satisfactory. The following conclusions can be drawn from the study:1. Based on the characteristics of physical fitness monitoring, combined with statistics analysis, this study introduces the 3 σ principles and use of curvefitting from Statistics. In according to the features of physical fitness monitoring and experts' opinions, this study divides age groups by ten years of age, flexibly selects sevralfold standard deviation and finally confirms quadratic equation fitting curves to tell the upper and lower limits of the indexes in accordance with the goodness of fit.2. This method is mainly used to check body composition index and has little to do with body function and physical fitness indexes because of poor relativity and normality of body function and physical fitness. Relevant research will continue in the future to explore methods for checking body function and fitness indexes.3. By utilizing the physical fitness data of the year 2005, it is found that this method of checking abnormal data is highly effective. This method can discern abnormal data by and large, thus can be used as a method to carry out logic check of national physical fitness data, and be advocated for wide use in future practice.
