The climacteric syndrome is a high-morbidity common disease seen during the transitional period from sexual maturity to senility. It refers to a series of symptoms occurring during the peri-menopausal period, that due to the gradual declination of the ovarian function and the fluctuative decrease of the woman' estrogen level, resulting in vegetative nerve functional disturbance and psychological changes. After summarizing many years of clinical experience, and combined knowledge of modern medicine, my tutor, Professor Liu Yanfeng believes that a deficiency of kidney-yin and stagnation of liver are the main pathogenesis of the syndrome. In treatment, she gave much importance to nourishing the kidney and liver and modulating the liver, and composed the Chinese medicinal compound of"Ning Gengdan".Some of the Chinese medicinal herbs include gou qi zi,nv zhen zi,tu si zi, sheng di huang, bai shao, chai hu, yu jin, sheng long gu, sheng mu li, and etc. The therapy of Chinese medicinal herbs showed good clinical results. In this research, we used Professor Liu Yanfeng,s Chinese medicinal herbs, treated 48 patients suffering from climacteric syndrome with the pathogenesis of the deficiency of kidney-yin and stagnation of liver. We performed a 2-month experiment comparing symptoms before and after treatment. We evaluated all patients'Kupperman scores and syndrome integrals separately before the research and after one course of treatment. The laboratory values of the serum FSH, LH and E2 acquired before and after the treatment are also compared. Then we did the acute toxicity test of Ning Gengdan. The results are as follows: The syndrome integrals were inproved and Kupperman scores were reduced after treatment. There were significant statistical differences in the clinical effects before and after treatment. 7 samples showed visible effectiveness (14.58%), 39 samples resulted in moderate effectiveness (81.25%). The total effective rate is 95.83%. This proved that the formula showed remarkable clinical effectiveness in treating the climacteric syndrome of the deficiency of kidney-yin and stagnation of liver type. Lab results show that the serum FSH and LH lowered after the treatment, E2 showed an increasing tendency compared to the pre-treatment test. This proves that the formula has its effects in regulating endocrinology disorders. The acute toxicity test proved that Ning Gengdan is safe when using in clinic. |
