Acupuncture Treatment Of Vascular Dementia Evaluation

Objective : To investigate the clinical research status of acupuncture for vascular dementia in the past 55 years and provide more reliable evidence for clinical treatment.Methods : Totally 95 clinical research papers for vascular dementia published in the past 50 years were searched and assessed based on Evidence-Based Medicine and Methodological Evaluation method.Results: Only one paper (1.05% of the total 95 articles) on systematic review (SR) about acupuncture treatment on vascular dementia was found. There were 63 papers (66.33% of the total articles) on RCT and CCT. The rest 31 papers (32.63% of the total articles) are those of summary and expert comments.The RCT results showed the curative effect of acupuncture on vascular dementia and the general treatment, common needling methods and acupoints.Conclusion : In China, the current quality and quantity of RCT of acupuncture for vascular dementia can't meet the need of clinical practice. In order to improve the treatment and prevention of vascular dementia, provide more reliable evidence for clinical treatment, higher quality RCT and SR are necessary.
