The paper consists three parts: the summarization of acupuncture treatmentof diabetic peripheral neuropathy(DPN) , a clinical observations and thesummaries of documents. The first part reviews and analyzes the clinical materials concerning thetreatment of diabetes and diabetic peripheral neuropathy by acupuncture . It isdivided into two parts to dissertate. The first part is about diabetes . In anotherpart , on the basis of acupuncture therapy of diabetes , we conclude the choices ofthe points , the ways of the operations , the degree of stimulator , the period oftreatment , the factors influencing the curative effect and the mechanism ofacupuncture treatment of DPN . The emphases of the research is acupuncture ,including electro-acupuncture , acupuncture injection and the treatment ofcombined acupuncture and medicament , etal . The clinic observations part is about to investigate the effect of theacupuncture treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy . Method: The patientsof DPN are divided into two groups of 30 cases randomly . One group is byacupuncture and the control group is cured by methycobal ( Mecobalamin ) .Check the changes of symptoms , hemodynamics and the speed of the nevertransfer .The result shows that the total effective rate of the acupuncture groupwas 83.33%.The control group was 53.33%. Statistical analysis shows that therewere significant differences between the two groups ( P<0.01 ) .In the same time ,acupuncture can ameliorate the symptom such as extremital numbness , pain andparesthesia in varying degrees in diabetic patients with peripheralneuropathy ,and adjust the abnormity of blood stream .The results ofelectromyography shows a marked improvement in conduction velocities andcoherence. Conclusion: The effect of treating DPN by acupuncture is affirmative. In the third part ,there are two summaries of documents. The first one isabout the research progress of the disease in recent years .It mainly includes thecause of diabetic peripheral neuropathy ( DPN ). The second one introduces thetreatment progress of DPN ,including the westmedicine and the herbs. There aremany medicine used in clinic ,but the curative effective is not so good, especiallyin the serious patients. On the contrary , the treatment of the herbs has a definitetherapeutic effect on the DPN .
