Invigorating The Kidney And Brain, The Phlegm Quyu Tongqiao Treatment Of Vascular Dementia Clinical Research

This article systematically reviewed and summed up the theoretical statements and the progress of therapeutic research on geriatric dementia by ancient and modern people and the progress of research on vascular dementia about modern medicine. Base on the theoretical views and clinical experience of my tutor on vascular dementia,it put forward "the gradual failure of viscera due to aging, phlegm and blood stasis form in the body" is the major etiology of VD and "deficiency of kidney essence and Exhaustion of Marrow, Obstruction of the brain due to phlegm and blood stasis" is the basic pathogenic mechanism of VD and "to nourish kidney essence and benefit brain, resolve phlegm and remove blood stasis to free the brain vessels from obstruction" is an important therapeutic method of VD. Tong Mai Yi Zhi capsule(TMYZC) has been developed according to these views.The patient of VD were selected according to the diagnostic standard of The Fourth National Cofference of Cerebral Vascular Disease and selected by the differentiation of syndrome belongs to "deficiency of kidney and failure of brain and Obstruction of the brain due to phlegm and blood stasis" in TCM. We treated 31 patients by TMYZC, and compared with NaoFuKang for 25 patients. Changes of clinical symptoms , Zhong Yi Zhi Neng Zong He ping Ding, mini-mental state examination(MMSE), activity of daily living(ADL) score and blood lipid and glucose, hemorrheologic character were observed before and after treatment. As a result, after all the patients were treated for 1 course(90 days) the MMSE scores of the patients increased significantly, the symptoms , Zhong Yi Zhi Neng Zong He ping Ding and ADL scores decreased obviously. In the treated group 2 cases were cured, 5 cases were markedly effective, 18 cases were effective and the total effective rate was 80.6 %, while those in the control group were 0 cases, 2 cases, 12 cases, 11 cases and 56% respectively. There were significant differences between the two groups statistically(P<0.05). These showed TMYZC could improve the disturbance of intelligence and activities of patients' daily living significantly, decrease symptoms and serum cholesterol, improve the hemorrheologic character.
