Chronic hepatitis B (CHB) is a kind of contagious disease commonly seen inclinical practice. It is the leading cause of hepatic cirrhosis and carcinoma, whichseverely threaten the patients' health. As this disease is rather hard to deal with, it hasbecome the focus of medical research both in China and abroad. Treatment of CHBbased on differentiation of syndromes in TCM (traditional Chinese medicine)originates in the understanding of some symptoms and signs such as jaundice andhypochondriac pain. Profound comprehension of the cause and pathogenic mechanismhas formed a theory system in the TCM development of thousands of years. In recentyears, with the development of science and technology, great achievements have beenmade in clinical treatment and scientific study. From the point of TCM, CHB is due tothe invasion of the body by dampness and toxic heat, which cannot be expelledbecause of poor body-resistance. The pathogenic factors remain within the body, impair liver-yin and spleen-Qi, leading to stagnation of liver-Qi, deficiency of spleenand liver-yin, blood stasis and residence of static toxins. Basing on the mechanism, weformulate the treatment method of harmonize liver, supplement spleen, invigorate yin, move blood stasis and clear toxins. This paper mainly discusses the curative effect ofthis method, and it can be divided into three parts: theoretical research, tutor'sexperience and clinical research. Theoretical research: Based on the overview and summary of the related literaldocuments from the past to the present, this thesis probes into the etiology, pathogenesis and treatment of Chronic Hepatitis B. The onset Chronic Hepatitis B iscaused by cooperation of exogenous damp-heat toxins pathogen invading, endogenousdeficiency of genuine Qi and disorder of the zang-fu organs. Long-time accumulationof damp toxins leads to the assembling of qi, blood, sputum and stasis. Disharmony ofthe zang-fu organs and blockage of the meridians eventually brings about thestagnation of liver-Qi, deficiency of spleen and liver-yin, blood stasis and residence ofstatic toxins are the basic pathogenesis and process of this disease. Harmonizing liver, supplementing spleen, invigorating yin, moving blood stasis and clearing toxins are thesuggested treatments to regulate qi, blood, yin and yang. Summary of the tutor's experience: This thesis summarizes the supervisor's ideasand methods in treating Chronic Hepatitis B, like having correct knowledge of the lawsin the contradiction between the body resistance and pathogens, stressing onsupplementing genuine qi to expel pathogens and advocating to treat by harmonizing6 柔肝健脾养阴,活血解'法治疗慢性乙型肝炎初探liver and supplementing spleen, invigorating yin, moving blood stasis and clearingtoxins. Clinical research: By retrospection of clinical cases, improvements of clinicalsymptoms and biochemistry examination index of blood sample of 35 cases of ChronicHepatitis B after treatment are observed. These patients all received the treatment ofharmonizing liver and supplementing spleen, invigorating yin, moving blood stasis andclearing toxins with a fundamental prescription. The period for observing lasted 6months. The analysis of the clinical findings reveals that the fundamental prescriptioncan significantly relieve the clinical symptoms of the patients, lower the GPT level andimprove the liver function. From the observation we may conclude that the method ofharmonizing liver and supplementing spleen, invigorating yin, moving blood stasis andclearing toxins has a fairly good effect on the patients with Chronic Hepatitis B.
