Some meningiomas, however, grow fast or recur even after total removal. The biological behavior of meningiomas often can not be predicted from convent i onal histopatho IogicaI studies. We use a monocIonaI antibody against proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) and the expression of be 1-2 to investigate the usefulness of the PCNA label ing index and be 1 -2 as a parameter to predict the recurrence of benign meningiomas. Methods We examined the expression of be I-2 and PCNA by PV-9000 i mmunoh i stochem istry in 60 specimens of benign intracraniaI meningiomas .All of the cases were divided into two groups: recurrence(group 1),non-recurrence (group 2).The patient included 26 men and 32 women, mean age 48.38(range 14 75)years.Ninety of the 58 primary tumors recurred locally. The mean progression-free follow-up period for patients without tumor recurrence was 6.5 years. Results Analysis of variance revealed that significant differences existed between the two groups for both PCNA LI (17.53%?.93% (x-眘) for group!, 3.25%?.87% for group2) and expression of be I-2 (67% for group!, 26% for group2) (p<0.01) .There is a significant difference existed between bc1-2 positive and negative groups, for PCNA LI (11.77%?.85% for bc1-2+, 5.9% ?.34% for bcl-2? (p<0.01) .The bcl-2 positive group included 14 cases i n group 1 and 10 cases i n group 2. A s i gn i f i cant d i f ference a I so ex i st between group 1 and group 2 for PCNA Ll(17.06%?.64% in group 1,4.37%?.71% in group 2) (p<0.01) .A similar trend was found for PCNA LI in group 1 higher than in group 2.Conclusion Both PCNA LI and the expression of bcl-2 has a good correlation with the recurrence of benign intracranial meningiomas. PCNA LI and the expression of bcl-2 on recurrent meningiomas were higher than non-recurrence ones. The whole of the two markers considered in benign intracranial meningiomas does predict recidivism.. | Keywords/Search Tags: | meningioma, benign, recurrence, Proliferating cell nuclear antigen, PCNA, genes,bc1-2 | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
