Based on the close relationship with the atherosclerosis, there is little doubt that hyperlipidemia is a major, independent risk factor for morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular disorders. With the development of living level, the morbidity of the hyperlipidemia tends to be increasing. How to prevent and cure it has become a focus.Two parts in the thesis: document reviews and clinical research.Document reviews: In this part, opinions of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and western medicine in the etiology, pathogenesis, differentiation, epidemiology and the therapy of hyperlipidemia were discussed, including traditional prescribition, single herb medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, statin therapy, fibrate therapy and others.Clinical research: Objective: To determine the effect and safety of Qing Zhi Liu Tong Wan, taken by patients with hyperlipidimia belonged to stagnation of Qi and blood and endogenous retention of phlegm type. Methods: A 4-week randomized double-blind-double-imiate-control parallel observational study. Demographics, cardiac risk factors, and lipid profile were collected. Results: Overall mean percentage of reduction in total cholesterol levels was 9.50% ~ 12.04%, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol was 8.23% - 22.35%, and triglyceride values was 13.84% ~ 16.79%, atherosclerosis index was 7.47% ~ 19.20%. Compared with Zhi Bi Tuo Capsule, Qing Zhi Liu Tong Wan has the significant effects in symptom remission .Conclusions: Results of clinical research of Qing Zhi Liu Tong Wan demonstrate that an improvement in lipid profile results and significant effects in symptom remission.
