Headache is a common disease in clinic. It has very complicated cause and pathogenesis. Headache relates to many viscera and has high incidence of disease. The fast tempo of life in modern society may cause nervouse, tired, anxious in mind and they can change into the cause of headache. There is unique experience and curative effect in prevention and cure headache using TCM(traditional Chinese medican). The doctors of past dynasties accumulated large number of document and material in rearching prevention and cure of headache. From the Han Dynasty(206 B.C.-A.D.220) to the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911), from the book copied on silk in the tomb in Mawangdui to those great works writed by famous doctors such as Zhangzhongjing, Sunsimiao, the thesis noted the origin and development of headache document.There are six parts in the thesis. In the first part, the author discussed the origin and change of the name of "headache". In the second part, the author gave "headache" a definition and explain it's range. Headache caused by some relative diseases can be included in it The thesis only discuss headache in medical department of TCM. In the third to the fifth part, the author discussed documents about headache from the Spring and Autumn Period(770-476 B.C.) and the Warring States(475-221 B.C.) to the Qing Dynasty. From many sides such as the brief account of these works of TCM, the relative names of headache, the relation between the theory of channels and collaterals and headache, the cause, character, diagnose, treatment and prognosis of headache, the author discussed the rearch about these document. Through the discuss, the author indicated that the cause of headache is very complicated and diversified, hi the treatment of headache, there is something that should be paid attention to and the wrong cure would cause bad result. In this period, more and more prescription were used and the number of therapy method is rising. The last part of the thesis is the cases of headache's cure. Through analysing these cases, the author indicated that the principles in TCM such as searching for the primary cause of disease in treatment, diagnosis and treatment based on overall analysis of symptoms and signs and treatment in accordance with physique of a individual, arevery important and be used usually.
