A Confocal Microscopic Image Compute-aided Analysis System which is composed of a Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope and a self-developing software has been established. This system provides a series of powerful functions including image sampling, 2D-image processing, visualization, parameter measurement, result analysis and so on.According to the characters of confocal image, we implemented various kinds of visualization approaches as the important part of CMIAS, including volume rendering and surface rendering. This paper mainly introduces the approaches of surface rendering and its application in the research on the shape of the neurons.This system is applied successfully in the research of the 3-D distributing of Calcium in hippocampal neurons, and the research of Nitric Oxide releasing inside hippocampal neurons. The establishment of CMIAS will provide the convenient, credible tool for biomedical researches.
