[Abstract] objective To observe the morphological changes of the lateral geniculate body (LOB) of the amblyopic cats following reverse suture (RS)and reverse suture combined with pattern stimulus(PS) to investigate the therapeutic effect of pattern stimulus on the amblyopia. Method 15 cats whose right eyes were sutured for 7 weeks at about 4 weeks after birth were divided into 3 groups and treated with reverse suture(open the sutured eye and suture the contralateral eye), reverse suture combined with PS and reopening the sutured eye respectively for different period. Other 4 cats , 2 were sutured in right eye for 7 weeks at the age of 4 weeks and 2 cats of the same age were reared in normal surroundings for7 weeks as control group. All above cats were perfused after the experiment and the LOB were dissected for morphologically analysis. Result The cells in the LGB innervated by the deprived eyes(deprived cells) were smaller than those by the undeprived eyes .In the course of reverse occlusion the size difference between deprived and undeprived cells was gradually cancelled due to the growth of the deprived cells in the early stage and both the growth of the deprived cells and the shrinkage of the undeprived cells in the later stage. However , both the growth of deprived cells and shrinkage of undeprived cells in the cat treated with RS combined with PS is greater than that in the cats treated with RS during the same period . The reverse coefficient is higher than the latter(p
