Objective: To observe the changes of P-VEP of reverse occlusion and reverse occlusion combined with pattern stimulus therapy in esotropic kittens, and evaluate the reliability of amblyopic curative effect of pattern stimulus. Methods:Thirty-six 4-week-old kittens were divided into normal group, strabismic group and therapeutic group. The lateral rectus muscle of one eye was sectioned under anaesthesia in order to induce an esotropic squint in strabismic group and therapeutic group. In therapeutic groups, the non-squint eyelids of six 8-week-old esotropic kittens were sutured to induce the model of occlusion therapy(Groupâ… ), another six kittens were reversely occluded combined with pattern stimulus therapy(Groupâ…¡). P-VEP P1 was recorded under anaesthesia, the latency and amplitude of P-VEP in normal group, strabismic group , therapeutic group were analysed. Result: P-VEP P1 amplitude was significantly lower and the latency was significantly longer in amblyopic eyes than those in the normal group and the non-squint eyes. The changes of P-VEP P1 wave were significant in therapeutic group before and after the treatment. The difference of changes was significant between therapeutic groupâ… and â…¡. Conclusion: The results indicate that the Pattern reversal stimulus can add the effect of occlusion therapy as an available visual stimulus. P-VEP is an important objective index in diagnosis and evaluating the curative effect of amblyopic living kittens.
