Hunan Chinese Medical College School History Study

The article studied the historical facts of former Hunan Technological School of Traditional National Medicine (HTSTNM), by reviewing the extant related literature published in the first half of the 20th century and visiting famous aged doctors of traditional Chinese medicine. The author expatiates mainly on the general situation, school management, teaching administration, and patriotic cultural movement of HTSTNM in that time. The background of the foundation of HTSTNM was that in those days the Central House of National Medicine and ex-Chairman He Jian of Hunan provincial goverment gave great support to its establishment, and the field of traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacology in Hunan province endeavored together for it. With regard to the management system, the author studied and systematizes a full set of relative perfect regulations and systems of the school such as the school administrative structure, teaching equipment and instruments, the management system of school meeting, library administration and so on. In the teaching system, the author introduced in detail the HTSTNM situation on the staff, admissions system, the condition of graduated students, curriculum design, administration of students, administration of student status, and management system for clinical practice, etc. In the patriotic cultural movement, the author studied in detail the school抯 great movement associated with resisting the ban issued by the reactionary government in the old days on traditional Chinese medicine (1CM), with protesting and struggling against invasion of western culture, and with striving for survival of 1CM and legal status of education of 1CM at that time. In addition, a large number of duplicated documents of the original literature related to HTSTNM are included in this paper.
