Objective: To search for the clinical results and biomechanics properties of shapeable elastic splint external fixation for the treatment of humeral shaft fracture. Methods: In-patients of humeral shaft fracture were randomly divided into two groups, L-shape elastic splint fixation group (treatment group) and four splint fixation group(control group). Fracture renovation of all patients were observed according to local symptom and physical sign and healing standard of fracture. Clinical results were analysised. Results: I .After fracture reduction, there was no significant difference in symptom integrals of two groups patients. The descant of symptom integrals of treatment group were significantly better than that of control group after 30 days, 60 days and 90 days fixation treatment(P<0.05). 2.Analysis results of biomechanics of L-shape splint:(1)Body's weight was bear by the L-shape splint and humorous, then stress arised from gravity were reduced. Another displacement trend of humeral caused by forearm activity was eliminated by using L-shape splint. ?Stress status of fractured ends could be adapted to the best by L-shape splint external fixation. Conclusion: L-shape elastic splint can fixate humeral shaft fracture firmly and effectively. L-shape splint give full play to the advantage-combining motion with static? Clinical results of L-shape splint were exact. It is a external fixation instrument which can be easily made and used. It is a new applied way of splint treating fractures in TCM. Main mechanism of action of L-shape splint are: 1. Gravity from distal extremity could be fully opposed by L-shape elastic splint external fixation separation and displacement could be avoided. 2. Influence of the activity of forearm and cubitus elbow on the fractured ends could be elevated by L-shape elastic splint抯 dominating rotarory movement of forearm, fixation effect were strengthened. 3. Blood vessel and nerve tissue were compressed by four splint. This compression could by avoided by using L-shape plastic splint.
