Chih Jiangxi Community Empty-nest Elderly Depression, Anxiety Survey And Intervention Study

Objective:To investigate depression and anxiety status of the community empty nest elders and analyze various factors of the situation. Based on the results to present and implement a community support psychological intervention and evaluate and feedback after the intervention. To establish a set of community support psychological intervention which are suitable in the community for the empty nest elders with symptoms of depression and anxiety.Content:1. To investigate depression and anxiety status of over 60 years old empty nest elders in Zhijiangxi community.2. To analyze the factors leads to depression and anxiety from the results of survey and present the intervention program on the basis.3. To implement the intervention program on the empty nest elders met the criteria and set the control group.4. To evaluate and feedback after the intervention and implement and apply specifically.Methods:Quantitative research methods are used including the collection of existing data, site investigation and etc.Survey tools:The second edition of Health Survey (SF-36), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) are applied and analyze and evaluate before and after the intervention.Conclusions:5. The prevalence of depression and anxiety of community empty nest elders is higher.6. The main factors of depression and anxiety of empty nest elders are physical illness, contact with family and friends, past occupation, religion, exercise and recreational activities. 7. The support psychological intervention can reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety of empty nest elders.8. The support psychological intervention can improve the life quality of empty nest elders.9. The symptoms of depression and anxiety of community empty nest elders are reduced significantly and the psycho-social aspects of life quality improved significantly. The support psychological intervention program is suit to apply in the community.10. The content of the support psychological intervention program is specific and the methods are practical. It is feasible to implement to the empty nest elders in the community.11. The support psychological intervention program can be applied in the tertiary prevention of depression and anxiety of community empty nest elders.
