Cough Ancient Literature Research And Academic Origins

Cough is one of Lung diseases which is caused by impaired depurative descending and abnormal rising of the lung qi, with the characteristics of cough sound or phlegm. It is a major lung diseases symptom, but also a independence disease. Cough is very common and easy seen in daily life, influencing people's lives and health, so it is meaningful to have a comprehensive study of the literature on cough, improve the understanding of the disease's treatment and quality of life.This paper's research is in the concept of cough as an independent disease. There is no clear distinction between cough as a symptom or disease in the earlier literature until Jin and Tang Dynasties, but early literature is extremely important, so it's also included in this research. The period of the literature is from the Early Qin to Qing Dynasty.Cough is a clinical common disease, its performance and related information were recorded both in the early medical books and non-medical books. Ancient physicians have much practical experience on cough's cause and pathological mechanism, syndrome differentiation, treatment, prescription and prevention. Based on the systematic collection of ancient literature and modern research on it, this paper analyzes the relative data with the method of literature, get the cough academic development and comprehensive summary treatment experience of ancient physicians. It tries to extract the essence of all the literature and provides a rich and detailed reference materials, which will definitely help disease research and exploration.This article is divided into two parts. The former is on the definition and the name origin of the disease, the post is the research in different periods of cough literature. The post have five parts which is divided on the historical period, they are from Early-Qin to the Three Kingdoms Dynasty, from the Jin to Five Generations, from Song to Yuan, Ming and Qing. They summarize cough's characteristics in different stages, which relates to the cause of cough pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, medication characteristics, prevention, case, etc. At the same time, the five parts focus on the key classic books and introduce them as highlights. Finally, some of cough's important academic views are discussed in the paper, such as'disorders of five-zang and six-fu organs all are the reasons of cough','Syndrome differentiation of external and internal evil','Qi, Phlegm, Wet', and some new ideas for diagnosis and treatment are put forward.
