China's Enterprises R & D Institutions, Type Of Location Research

Enterprises' R&D institution is the important carrier which conducts organized and sustained R&D activities. In order to explore the spatial distribution and location type of enterprises' R&D institutions in China, the study case of Shanghai is analyzed in this paper.Based upon elucidating the basic characteristics of enterprises' R&D activities, the main focus of this paper remains on the spatial distribution and location type of enterprises' R&D institutions in Shanghai. Through the survey study to 97 enterprises' R&D institutions locating in Shanghai, the location type of enterprises' R&D institutions is divided into five in accordance with the location relation of corporate organization:①the same location with headquarter;②the same location with production base;③the same location with headquarters and R&D institution;④headquarter being not in Shanghai;⑤independent enterprises' R&D institution. The result shows that the number of enterprises' R&D institutions being at the same location with headquarters is the largest. Judging from spatial distribution, concentration and diffusion coexist, type①mainly locates in the city center such as Xuhui district; and type②is mainly in peri-urban areas and outer zone; independent enterprises' R&D institutions mainly locate in Xuhui district and Pudong district. And most R&D institutions are more inclined to be located in development zones or industrial park.On the base of that, further analysis to the location factor of enterprises' R&D institutions is made in the paper. The resulting analysis shows that enterprises attach great importance to the inter-sector collaboration, particularly the geographical proximity to headquarter and production base. Moreover, High Tech talent, land, regional policy and Infrastructure are important location factors for R&D. However, different types of enterprises are concerned with different factors.
