Russia's Energy Security Strategy Research

Russia boasts a vast energy reserve, and a powerful complex of kinds of energy, which underlies its economic development, serves as a powerful tool for imposing its domestic and diplomatic policies, and, in particular, as the decisive power ensuring its geopolitics. But, because of globalization and the ever increasing international competition, coupled with the intensified contending of the world energy market, the Russians are fully aware that their own energy security is being threatened. Therefore, they immediately adjusted the energy security strategy, releasing such legal documents as Russian's Energy Security Theory and Russian's Energy Strategy Before 2020, which state that the country's energy security means the security of both the domestic energy supply and energy exporting, analyze the threats against its energy security, and work out flexible and powerful diplomatic policies for energy. All these measures have, to some degree, relieved the country of its energy security crisis, revitalized its economy and promoted its status in the international economic and political stage.The rapid development of economy poses an ever-increasing energy shortage in China. The demand for oil and gas, in particular, is sharply rising, while the domestic supply is on the decrease, which has to be made up for by the ever expanding import, which is, in turn, imposes big threat to our energy security, to our country's security and economy development. As a response to this, China has immediately worked out an energy security strategy characterized by internationalization and multielement, regarding Russia as a primary cooperator. Up to now, the Sino-Russian energy cooperation has developed rapidly in spite of some minor obstacles. What we are obliged to do is cherish the Sino-Russian strategic partnership, take advantage of every positive factor and seize the opportunity to achieve breakthroughs in the cooperation and ensure China's energy security.
