The increasingly frequent activities of Chinese multinational corporations provide more materials for the research of Chinese foreign direct investment in Europe and cause numerous considerations at the same time. In fact, China is a very special case on the topic of FDI, not only because of the big distance between the inward and outward investment but also because of something about the transition of the economic systems. In this paper, we will first take a look at the growth and spread of Chinese direct investment abroad and some historical changing pattern of the Chinese FDI. Then an empirical analysis of Chinese FDI is carried out to explore the interaction between investment motives and behaviors of some Chinese enterprises when they started to invest in the European countries. In order to find the relationship, some questionnaires are sent to a number of Chinese subsidiaries which operate their business in Europe. Finally, a small theoretical model is developed through Factor Analysis and Logistic Regression methods based on the firm level data to illustrate the main factors that impact the decision significantly.
