Shaanxi Apple Industry's International Competitiveness Study

Wei Bei plateau of Shaanxi province is the famous apple producing area in the world. Shaanxi province has the unique advantage in nature conditions and ecological environment. Especially, since the government promulgated "the decision of accelerating the industrialization of the fruit industry mainly to apple ", Shaanxi apple production has been unprecedented development. Today, apple cultivation area and output account for No.1 in the country. The apple output occupies 1/3 of the nation, equal in 11%. of the whole world. And the Shaanxi apple juice market share accounted for more than 1/3 of the world trade volume. Shaanxi apple industry has already become a pillar industry in national economic development and played an extremely important role in apple industrial pattern in the nation and even in the world. With the in-depth development of economic globalization and after entry into WTO, how to promote the international competitive of Shaanxi apple industry and how to obtain the sustained development in the intense international competition, become a crucial question which we must take into consideration.Taking full account of China's accession to the WTO faced by the international environment, evaluation index systems of international competitive power of Shannxi's apples was constructed based on comparative advantage theory, competitive advantage theory and the diamond model by Michael Porter. Meantime, it has made the real analysis and carried out international comparison about competition results and influencing factors and has made the comparison with Shandong, Xinjiang, and other five provinces.First, by means of international market share, trade competition index, RCA and trade concentration degree index etc, this essay has measured international market competitive results and carried on the international comparison of main kinds of Shaanxi apples. It has drawn conclusion as follows: the Shaanxi fresh apple international competitiveness compared to other major apple exports to the provinces not weakly, apple juice concentrate and strong competitiveness, from the dynamic perspective, the Shaanxi apple's industry international competitiveness is strengthening unceasingly.Secondly, the direct cause affecting the international competitiveness of Shaanxi apple industry is analyzed from the price and the non-price essential factor two aspects. It has drawn the following conclusions: the Shaanxi apple has larger superiority in the production cost and the price, however, the aspects of fruit's quality and security, picks the post-processing, productivity and the marketing ability are relatively weak. From the time-series data, Shaanxi Apple quality, productivity has been improving, the overall level of international competitiveness on the rise.Third, the evaluation systems of international competitiveness of apple industry is established. The data information of six provinces of apple exports are carried on the processing to reorganize. The results of apple competition potential of various provinces are calculated. We concluded by the results of apple competition potential that Shanxi is situated the nation second, is only next to Shandong, Heilongjiang at number 3, Neimenggu ranked 4, Xinjiang in fifth, Guangxi ranked sixth. Generally speaking, Shaanxi has the strong international competition potential. From the international competitiveness rankings, Shaanxi is No.1 in production factor and related industries, No.4 in domestic demand and production management and No.5 in government function.Finally, on basis of above studies, this essay has discussed the ways to promote international competitive power of Shaanxi apple industy.
