The world becomes globalization, the different type of consumer wants thecustomized product or service, the outside environment becomes more and morecompetitive. Every company is considering seriously how to deal with the marketcompetition and uncertainty. Under these uncertain circumstances, it is very crucial for acompany to develop and run its competitive operation system.The lean thinking requires the company to find the best techniques to provide thevalue to the customer, to identify the value stream for each product, to make sureeverything in each process will be smooth from the initial concept design to the endcustomer. In this way the customer pulls the whole supply chain, meanwhile the companycontinues to seek the excellence and perfection, and continuously reduces the variouswaste in the processes and maximizes value-added activities for the customer. The conceptof the value, value stream, flow, pull and perfection further develops to become the leantechniques which are applied to product research and development, manufacturing,procurement and customer service etc.Under the market uncertainty, how to reduce the cost and increase the operationeffectiveness and efficiency, and how to make a quick response to the customer demand,which is what this article will discuss. This article also explains the principles andtechniques of the lean production system. It refers to current status and issues in thealternator and generator sets fields inside and outside. It also refers to how to analyze andimplement the lean techniques, tools in our own company. It focuses on the levelscheduling, one piece flow, pull just-in-time system, 5S & visual control, automation andenterprise resource planning, learning organization, balanced scorecard, and vendormanaged inventory at the upper stream supplier side.
