In the 1990s, retail banking business of Global commercial banks had a period ofgreat development. Retail banking business has now become a profitable business of themain commercial banks in many countries and regions. This has changed the traditionalpattern that small banks operate retailing business while large banks operate in thewholesale market. Since the latter half of the 1990s, the retailing market has becomeincreasingly fierce, and retail banking business developed more rapidly. In China, the retailbanking business is becoming the trend and a hot new round.At present, China's commercial banks in the retail business are still in the earlystages of development. Their operation mechanism and system are still not complete.Compared with the commercial banks of the developed countries or regions, they are stillquite far behind. In the end of 2006 China has full liberalized the financial market, whenforeign banks will compete with us by virtue of their rich experience and advancedtechnology in the field of retail banking business. Meanwhile, because of China's rapideconomic development, people's income levels have also been improved, Personalfinancial assets growing rapidly, so the demand for retail banking business is also growing.Therefore, developing retail banking business vigorously is the urgent task of the entirebanking industry.The article is composed of six chapters. First of all, the article introduces relatedtheories of strategic study on retail banking; then has an overall rally analysis on thedevelopment situations of international and domestic commercial retail banking.Inaddition, based on present retail banking developing conditions of Industrial andCommercial Bank of China (ICBC), Yancheng Branch, the article points out the necessityand urgency of strategic transformation of retail banking and has a further study onstrategic purpose for ICBC ,Yancheng Branch ; Finally, by learning advanced experiences,the article puts forward operating strategies and managing modes for retail banking ofICBC ,Yancheng Branch.
