By the end of 2005, the total installed capacity of power generation in China is 508410MW, in which the capacity of 384130MW with the percentage of 75.6% is coal fired. In the past 50 years, the development of China's power industry relies on the construction of coal fired power plant, and working as the main forces, the state-owned electric power construction enterprises are playing the major roles.However, the impact of the structural adjustment in country's energy sources especially in power source on the market of coal fired power generation is enormous. The electric power construction enterprises, which are living on this market, have to face the crises, not only on the market but also the challenge of construction enterprises from both China and overseas, moreover, it has to face the system reform. With the critical situation, the electric power construction enterprises have to adapt well to the changes of the environment and improve the competitive abilities in their core competencies.On the basis of the comparison analysis and the cases analysis in the text, the author has thoroughly investigated the subject on the cultivation of competitive abilities in core competencies of the electric power construction enterprises. First of all, based on the theoretical knowledge about modern enterprise management, it illustrates that for the purpose of progress, the modern enterprise has to make up its own competitive strategy, through cultivation of the strategy competence to improve its own competitive advantage and competitive abilities in core competencies; based on the theoretical research, it analyzes the actuality and the trend of development about electrical power industries and the effect on the electrical power construction companies from the adjustment of electrical power industries structures etc. In construction competitive structure environment analyzes , it makes use of the model of "Five Competitive Forces" to discuss on the bargaining abilities of the supplier and the purchaser (client), the menace of potential entrant, the menace of substitute, and the competition in the same industry, it consequently concludes that some of the electric power construction enterprises will probably go to bankruptcy due to fierce competitive bidding works and...
