In today's society, leadership has a direct impact on the success of the enterprise, but more and more enterprises face with a situation of shortage of middle and senior management talent. Succession planning is essential for organizations in the process of pursuing the long-term strategy and sustainable performance. Succession planning, strategy evaluation/recognition, management performance assessment as well as compensation are three primary responsibilities of board of directors of a company.It is a difficult problem for any enterprise to figure out how to design & implement succession planning. Many excellent international companies solve this problem by establishing and optimizing the manager succession planning system. This dissertation will begin with a concise analysis of significance of manager succession plan and domestic/foreign research status. It will explain and analyze the concept and characteristic of manager succession plan, management position demand forecasting as well as competency module, selection, evaluation and training of successor, and theories of implementation of manager succession plan. Then through a case study approach, it will briefly describe background of W motor company. It will conduct research on the company current manager succession's system, experience and shortcoming through interview investigation. Focusing on company current manager succession manner, it deeply analyzes the obstacles of manager succession plan implementation, and proposes countermeasure for improvement. Starting from value and understand manager succession plan, company needs to well plan on human resource, effectively forecasts manager position, optimizes selection and evaluation, strengthens efforts to cultivate management successor, develops multiple training mode to improve content and format of implementation of manager succession plan.And this thesis aims to explore the new idea of design and implementation of succession planning. Through the systematic research, provide theoretical basis for diagnosing and re-designing the existing manager succession planning. This study has important practical significance for promoting the manager administration, leadership development, leadership reserve as well as the cultivation of a successor.
