Regional Division Of Labor In China's Manufacutre Industry: Level And Evolution

The level and tendency of China regional division of labor is an important issue, which has been fiercely discussed at various stages. The problem of regional division of labor attracts wide public attentions because of the changes and characters of regional division of labor will bring out effects on the economic growth. China has a vast territory and an obvious regional heterogeneity, objectively speaking, which afford natural foundation to regional division of labor. However, in additional to natural factors, governmental policies, the rule of industrial development and other factors also will bring about important effects on regional division of labor. Since the reform and opening up, as the role of market continues to be consolidated, China's overall economy develops rapidly. At the same time, the level of regional division of labor has changed obviously and gradually formed some features; those features will bring about different effects on various areas. As a result, it is vital important to realize the features of current regional division of labor and understand the effects which these features bring about.This paper firstly combs the theory of regional division of labor, as well as makes a conclusion of all factors that affect the level of regional division of labor. We demonstrate the evolution of domestic regional division of labor; coupled with domestic system background, form two phase that before and post revolution and opening, and makes a conclusion of the characters of regional division of labor during these two phase as well as analysis their benefit and shortcoming.This paper empirically analyzes the development of the level of 1989～2008 domestic manufacturing regional division of labor by using relative data from three different area aspect within a simply analysis framework, in order to understand the tendency of domestic regional division of labor. The research above shows that, since the reform and opening up, the level of domestic manufacturing regional division of labor among industries is roaring up. Of course, to find out the reason that causes this change and grasp the features of current regional division of labor, as well as analyze the effects on regional economic growth is our ultimate goals. However, owing to the shortcoming of index, the index which calculates the level of regional division of labor can not meet this requirement. So this paper formulates a analysis framework of the level of regional division of labor and industrial spatial structure, within this framework, this paper uses a series of index which calculates the level of industrial spatial structure. The discussions above show the fact that the pattern of regional division of labor which characteristics as industries concentration contributes the development of regional division of labor.Finally, we makes all major conclusions of this paper, and analysis the reason why current domestic regional industry transfer haven't happened at a large scale, this paper also put forward some policy and suggestion to foster the current domestic manufacture regional division of labor to a better condition.
