With the development of technology and the requirement of large numbers of electrical devices, management of these devices becomes more complex and remote management and control of them becomes a basic requirement. Currently, there are many devices configured by serial port which is not easy to remotely transfer data. Console server is a scheme developed to solve the problem. IPDU which is intelligent power management system for flexibly control power of some equipment is itself operated through serial port. Integrating console server and IPDU makes them work better together and it seems that console server has the ability of power management. Not only does that realize remote power management, but also makes the operation easy and friendly.The system is developed based on the software and hardware of console server. After researching of IPDU and console server, the Linux kernel and some shared library are successfully ported to ARM hardware platform. Then, some applications which communicate with IPDU are developed on the embedded Linux. The system uses shared memory as the way for inter-communication, and supports multiple users. Meanwhile, a web server and a website are ported to the destination system to provide users more convenient operations besides security guarantee.A scheme for integrating console server and IPDU is systemically analyzed in this thesis. Firstly, the application and technology background of the system are introduced, and its theoretical and practical meaning is stated. Then, the developing environment and technical scheme for the system are specified, and the platform and technical difficulties are illuminated. In the following part of design and implementation, destination, scheme and implementation method of the system are illustrated in the thesis, and each module, main algorithms and system states transition is explained. At last, system testing and project experience is presented, and some aspects of the system to be improved are pointed out.
