In some wireless sensor network applications, such as the event detection and outlier detection system, the data with unwonted information should has a high real-time requirement in the data transmission, it is necessary to try the best to make the data reach its destination within the limited time. If the system is not good enough to meet the requirements of this needs, its performance will be greatly decreased or even cannot be accepted. Meanwhile, in wireless sensor networks, the energy problem remains the bottleneck, it is necessary to save the energy consumption as much as possible to extend the life of the network. Thus, the problem of how to trade off time and energy according to the need of the data being transmitted in the network has become an immediate one. When it comes to the sensor network routing algorithm, so many factors should be took into consideration in the designing work, such as data-centric, the reliability of data transmission, the robustness of the network and so on, makes the design of the network routing protocol a complicated task. This paper presents a communication links management technology with triggers, which is based on dual-net. The so-called dual-net are two sub-networks which are divided from the existing communication network by classifying the attributes of its links, one is the energy efficient communication network, and the other is the time effective communication network. When the data is transmitted in the network, it can trade off the energy-saving and time-saving demands by choosing the appropriate communication network. Dual-net technology has these advantages, it is the first time that the concept of communications link management was proposed, the minimum energy and minimum time problems in data transmission can be solved in the communication links layer. It can dynamically adjust the transmission path based on real-time requirement of data to achieve high performance of wireless sensor networks. Meanwhile, dual-net as a routing technology optimization method, rather than routing technology itself, can be easily embedded into the existing wireless sensor networks, has a good universal feature. Similar to the dormancy mechanism, which allocates and utilizes the sensor nodes in a rational way, the dual-net based communication links management technique is a rational allocation of resources and use of the communication links. The proposed technique can solve'the minimum energy and minimum time problem for data transmission in the network, thereby reducing the burden on the design of routing protocols, in order to simple the routing protocol design work.Experiments and analysis show that, proposed in this paper, the dual-net based communication links management methods can be a good way to trade-off between the two aspects of time and energy requirement in the network, which can meet the response time deadline and achieve the goal of energy saving to the maximum extent possible. At the same time experiment also shows that the technology is robust and scalable.
