In power systems, passive filter plays an important role in harmonic control and reactive power compensation. Passive filter with simple structure, low-cost, high reliability, low operating costs was generally used as harmonic suppression equipment in power systems. In this essay, parameter design of passive filter in power systems was deeply researched.Structure and working principle of single-tuned filter and high-pass filter were studied. The influence on passive filter performance related to frequency deviation, reactive power compensation capacity, tuning sharpness and cut-off frequency was researched in detail. How to decide system harmonic impedance and the relationship between system harmonic impedance and passive filter performance were analyzed.Engineering design of passive filter parameters was researched. The paper presents minimal capacitor installed capacity method, reactive power allocating method and over-voltage limitation method. In addition, an integrated approach based on the three verification conditions of overvoltage, overcurrent and capacity balance was given. The relationship between the reactive power compensation, filtering efficiency and passive filter parameters selection was analyzed synthetically. The feasibility of engineering design of passive filter parameters was proved.Optimization method of passive filter parameters was studied. Parallel selection method base on genetic algorithm was proposed to optimized parameters of passive filter. Mathematical description, conditions of equality constraints, inequality constraints and fitness function of passive filter optimization method were given. On this basis, flow chart of parallel selection method base on genetic algorithm can be obtained to optimize parameters of passive filter.In this essay, Simulation model of passive filter was established. Engineering design and optimization method of passive filter were analyzed comparatively and it's proved that optimization method of passive filter has better quality and more effective.
