Ad Hoc network is wireless mobile multihop network, which consisting of some wireless nodes. The network provides temporary connectivity in areas where there is no other networking infrastructure available.Key applications for these types of networks include disaster relief and battlefield networks.Routing is one of the important problems to be resolved in order to deploy Ad Hoc network. This problem is a challenge because of the constantly changing topology of the network triggered by node mobility and the traditional Internet routing protocols can't adapt Ad Hoc network,so a special routing protocol must been designed exclusively for Ad Hoc network. In this paper, three different routing protocols were introduced and analyzed based on the characteristics of Ad Hoc network. In this paper, the Ad Hoc network routing protocol, the NS simulation tool and its simulation process were researched.First,Ad Hoc network research at home and abroad have been introduced, then their characteristics and applications are also briefly described. In addition, several typical routing protocols such as Destination-Sequenced Distance-Vector Routing(DSDV ),Dynamic Source Routing(DSR) and Ad-hoc On-demand Vector Routing(AODV) were analyzed and comparised. Finally, the simulation of the three routing protocols are achieved in the NS2 platform. The performance including packet delivery fraction, average end-to-end delay, routing load and average hop are analyzed. From the analytical results,we can choose different routing protocol for different application.
