Now, increasing family and pint-sized office use Broad Band facility to meet the network. It is needed to running the computer long time in order to download a great deal of data files for the owner of only one computer. For the owner of many computers, one computer is used to work and amusement, the other is used to download files. It brings the resource waste and durative noises. Also the PC is free mostly times, of which can not be made full use of. Besides, only the modem and Broad band router is online all the time in the family and pint-sized office network, but this two devices can not save and solve data. It is unbefitting in this way to connect the network for the high cost, impropriate space and running cost.The download proxy server based on Embedded-Linux can solve this problem. It provides a online data platform for each user in the network. By far, the low cost, always online, low consume, small volume, without fan device does not exist. The download proxy server use the download program to download the preplan files, and it could download files independently.In this paper,first introduces the embedded system relevant knowledge,then gives the implementation of the download proxy server. And highlight the key point for embedded system development—Cross Compiler Tool-chain.This paper brings forward a model based on ARM and Linux which use the S3C2440 as the processor. The hardware board is designed including the Ethernet interface and USB port. Accordding to the hardware board, this paper introduces in detail the transplant for Linux OS. Also introduces the transplant for application procedures according to the the hardware-software platform and the features.At the end, the paper gives a summary of the work and discusses the existent problems. Also it is pointed out the way to refinement the embedded device.
